Candidate Statement

The program committee provides membership and archival workers with opportunities to learn and network with each other. As the profession evolves, we must reconsider the best ways to provide these opportunities. COVID and the changing ways in which people interact and learn influence what programming we should offer and what formats they should be in. As Assistant Program Chair, I would help find ways to best support our mission, vision, and values while navigating these new challenges. We need to ask ourselves what conference themes provide for the most diverse voices to contribute? What are the best formats for reaching the most members and achieving the most engagement? How do we continue to help members stay up to date with the evolving profession and new technologies? How do we ensure that students, new professionals, BIPOC, and other marginalized groups have places to share and receive support during the conference? As Assistant Chair, I want the committee to consider these questions and more. I want to ensure that we are providing sessions that emphasize our values of community, leadership, diversity, lifelong learning, and sustainability. To do so, we need to review feedback from past conferences and explore the work of other organizations. What is working for other regional archival organizations and what do members want from the conference program? By doing so, I hope that we can provide conference programming that grants the most opportunities for our members.
