Biographical Statement

Virginia Blake is the Archivist/Public Services Librarian at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA; a role she has held for 9 years. She received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Maine, a M.P.A. from Georgia College & State University, and a M.L.I.S. from the University of South Carolina. She has been an active member of SGA since 2012, and has served on several committees including Scholarship, Georgia Archives Month, and Membership. She was co-chair of the Outreach Committee in 2022 and is currently chair of that committee. She enjoys serving on the SGA board and would like to continue to do so in the role of Archivist.

Candidate Statement

Having been on the board this year as Outreach Committee Chair, I would like to continue working on the board as Archivist. As part of the strategic plan, the Archivist is responsible for helping in finalizing a digital preservation plan and digitization strategy. This is something that I have been working on in my role as Archivist at Wesleyan College. This has given me experience in developing these strategies and policies and I look forward to bringing this experience to this position. As Archivist I would continue to work in collaboration with members to ensure that the core values of SGA continue to be met and work towards the goals for the future. As in my job, I would work to ensure that there is a continuity of documentation and a way to manage the preservation of institutional knowledge so that we may continue to be an organization that supports the value of archives and archivists.
