Biographical Statement

Ashley Bennett is a dedicated information professional with a passion for customer service and archival science. She earned her Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Valdosta State University and further enhanced her expertise with a Master of Archival Studies (MAS) from Clayton State University. In June 2024, Ashley achieved the distinction of becoming a fully certified archivist, reflecting her commitment to the field and her continuous professional development.

At Middle Georgia State University, where she began her higher education career in 2019 as the Electronic Resources Librarian, Ashley made history by becoming the institution's first official Archivist. Her dedication to shaping future professionals in the field is exemplified by her initiative in developing and fully implementing the undergraduate elective course, "HIST 3013 Introduction to Archives." This course serves as an exploratory avenue for current history majors considering public history as their concentration.

Ashley's archivist philosophy is rooted in the values of access, equity, lifelong learning, community engagement, archival processing, and ethical stewardship. Through her work, she strives to create inclusive environments that foster knowledge sharing and the preservation of history for future generations.

Candidate Statement

I would like to formally express my interest in serving as a member of the Nominating Committee for the 2025 term in support of the election processes for the Society of Georgia Archivists. Over the past year, I have had the honor of serving as the Scholarship Committee Chair, an experience that has significantly enhanced my leadership skills, including delegation practices, advanced communication with fellow committee chairs, marketing initiatives to effectively announce scholarship parameters, and the preparation of documents for future reference.

Working collaboratively with esteemed archival professionals on the scholarship committee has been an enlightening experience. Together, we have provided funding opportunities for members of SGA and fostered engagement in events organized by or in partnership with the organization. As a prospective member of the Nominating Committee, I am eager to deepen my understanding of the administrative functions of SGA and to contribute to attracting a diverse group of individuals for positions within the organization. I would be grateful for the opportunity to contribute in this capacity.
