Candidate Statement

Serving as SGA’s Vice President/President-Elect would be a great honor. When I first joined the Society ten years ago, I found a supportive, collegial community that has continued to shape my professional life. Since then, I have been fortunate to serve on the Board and on a range of committees including the Scholarships Committee, Education Committee, Logo Redesign Task Force, Program Committee, Nominating Committee and the Editorial Board of Provenance. These roles have allowed me to give back to the Society, develop essential professional skills, build meaningful connections across our membership, and deepen my understanding of the challenges archivists face today.

The challenges are significant. They include political interference in our institutions, ongoing threats to a diverse workforce, the rapid proliferation of AI, and a job market that undervalues the professional work done by archivists today. This is why I believe our Society’s role is more important now than ever. While no single individual can solve these issues alone, I have tremendous faith in the collective expertise, creativity, and commitment of our members. If elected, I will work to champion collaboration, mutual support, and continue to foster a welcoming environment for archivists at every stage of their careers. I’m eager to contribute my experience, but more importantly draw on the experiences and ideas of SGA’s members to help us strive toward our collective goals, since SGA is our state’s only organization prioritizing archivists and their concerns.
