Join us for a curated heritage walk by Broderick Flanigan. In the early 1900s, Hot Corner was one of the most prosperous historically African American business districts in the South. Hot Corner, at the intersection of Hull St. and Washington St., supported a thriving African American business community and was home to the celebrated Morton Theatre, one the first black-owned and operated vaudeville theatres in the country. The tour will begin outside of the Classic Center, and will conclude at the Morton Theatre.
Broderick Flanigan is a self-taught artist and prominent Black voice in Athens whose work can frequently be seen in gallery exhibitions and murals throughout the city. Through his outreach program, Helping Art Reach Public Spaces, Flanigan involves local youth in his public art-making process and teaches them how they can also amplify their voices through art.
