Christine Wiseman
SGA Fellow
Class of 2018

Christine Wiseman is Head of the Digital Services Unit at the Robert W. Woodruff Library at Atlanta University Center where she works collaboratively with library and archives colleagues to deliver digital services in support of teaching, learning, and research. Prior to joining the Atlanta University Center, Christine served as Preservation Services Manager at the Georgia Archives. During this tenure, Christine was actively involved in statewide and regional disaster planning and was on one of the earliest teams to assess damage to records in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. Christine teaches on a wide variety of archives and preservation topics, for the Georgia Archives Institute and for Clayton State University’s Masters in Archival Studies program.

Christine pioneered many key programs for archival preservation in Georgia. She was involved in developing the PReP (Pocket Response Plan); bringing Heritage Preservation’s Alliance for Response Forums to Atlanta and Savannah; and in forming HERA, an Atlanta area disaster network. She was the project manager for Georgia’s statewide preservation planning project, the Healthy Collections Initiative in 2007-2009, which developed one of the first tools for assessing and providing practical and implementable guidelines in healthy collections care.

In the words of her nominator, “Christine’s impact goes well beyond her formal education, leadership, advocacy, and scholarly activities. She generously serves as a mentor to many of us in the archives profession. Many archivists who know her will also consider her a great friend because she devotes so much of her time to lending encouragement to those entering the profession.”
