Society of Georgia ArchivistsPreserving the past and present for the future.

SGA members:

Below are the proposed bylaw language changes regarding the Regional Archival Associations Consortium Liaison position for your review. This proposed bylaws change was voted on and approved by the SGA Board via an email vote held on November 16, 2022. Per the Society of Georgia Archivists Bylaws, any amendments and revisions to the bylaws must be ratified by a two-thirds majority of the organization’s members casting a vote, regardless of membership type.

Current language in SGA Bylaws:

Regional Archival Associations Consortium (RAAC) Liaison: The RAAC liaison shall serve as SGA’s representative to the Consortium. RAAC promotes collaboration and exchange of information among the leadership of regional archival organizations, as well as among the Regionals and the Society of American Archivists (SAA). The Liaison shall be required to attend quarterly SGA board meetings and the SAA annual meeting. This appointment shall last three years with the outgoing RAAC liaison acting in an advisory capacity in the third year.

Past President: The past president shall serve as an advisor to the president. The past president shall chair the Nominating Committee. The past president's term shall last for one year.

Proposed change:

To eliminate the RAAC Liaison role as a position on the SGA Executive Board and have the duties of the RAAC Liaison assumed by the Past President / Nominating Committee Chair. The above position description language for the RAAC Liaison would be deleted from the Bylaws and the Past President’s Bylaws language would be revised as follows:

  • Past President: The past president shall serve as an advisor to the president. The past president shall chair the Nominating Committee and will serve as the organization’s representative to the Regional Archival Associations Consortium. The past president's term shall last for one year.

Proposed ballot question:

Do you approve the elimination of the RAAC Liaison position and the assumption of all RAAC duties to be assigned to the SGA Past President / Nominating Committee Chair? If so, do you approve of the Bylaws changes outlined in the proposal here?
