2022 GAM Competitive Audio Digitization Program

Georgia Archives Month is soliciting proposals for digitization of audio collections costing up to $500 in PreserveSouth services from non-profit Georgia cultural heritage institutions. Award amount can cover up to 25 audio cassettes, 20 ¼” reels or 10 records as an example. Applicants must be organizations located outside the metro Atlanta area. Resulting files must be made freely available online, and metadata for the digitized materials must be shared with DLG for inclusion in the appropriate DLG portal and the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).

Work to be performed in September to be completed by early October for promotional use during Georgia Archives Month.

Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Clarity of proposal--Project scope and responsibilities should be well-defined.

  • Capacity building--Preference will be given to organizations who are members of SGA or those with limited digitization resources or experience.

  • Diversity--Materials that represent the cultural, political, social, geographic, and/or economic diversity of the state of Georgia will be given priority.

  • Historic value--Materials should have high research, artifactual, or evidential value and/or be of particular interest to multiple audiences.

  • Added value through digitization--Materials for which access will be substantially improved by digitization or which have a high potential for added value in the digital environment through linkages to existing digitized content will be given priority.

  • Theme alignment--Materials should align with the Georgia Archives Month theme, Spinning a Yarn: Southern History Through Storytelling.

A committee consisting of the Society of Georgia Archivists’ Georgia Archives Month committee will determine awards. Awards committee members will recuse themselves from review of a proposal should a conflict of interest exist.
