Society of Georgia ArchivistsPreserving the past and present for the future...

David Stanhope (Mentor #2012-01)

Reason(s) for wanting to be a mentor:

I have over 25 years experience in the archival profession working within every aspect of archival theory, methods and management. I think back to the beginning of my career and realize how helpful it would have been for me to have a mentor. I think it is very important for senior members of our profession to help our rising archivists cultivate their knowledge and skills and to also help them navigate through professional opportunities and their professional career.

As a mentor, I see myself as:

  • Advisor/Counselor
  • Advocate
  • Resource
  • Sponsor
  • Teacher

I want to help a mentee:

  • Expand their core knowledge of professional issues, archival standards, best practices, etc.
  • Feel more a part of or connected to the professional community and SGA
  • By providing advice related to building and navigating professional relationships (with supervisors, direct reports, co-workers, peers, etc.)
